The Eden Index publishes one score across twelve categories — cost of living, housing, safety, schools, climate, climate risk, healthcare, mobility, outdoors, culture, economy and wages, and community — for every county and metro area in the country. Every indicator behind it is traceable: tap a score to see the categories, tap a category to see the indicators, tap an indicator to see the raw value, its units, its source, and the date that source was published.
It is a data product as much as an app. The same factset that powers scoring and ranking is served by a public, documented, read-only API, so anyone can build on it — the attribution and limitations travel with the data.
A score is a percentile within a stated pool, not a grade. The default weighting is an editorial prior, versioned with the methodology and shown to you as twelve adjustable weights before any ranking appears — a default presented as neutral would be exactly the dishonesty this project exists to avoid.
What's unmeasured for a category is read from the underlying factset and stated wherever a score is read at length, not hardcoded into a disclaimer that goes stale the day new data ships.
