About Clerk of Eden

We build the website a small town's clerk can run without calling anyone, and that a council or a complainant can be shown a record for.

Who it is for

Villages, towns and small cities, and counties of similar size. In most of them one or two people post the agendas, answer the phone and renew the website contract. The screens are written in a clerk's words, for that person.

What we believe

  • Accessible by construction. The templates, the editor and the document checks are built so the output meets WCAG 2.1 AA, rather than fixing it afterwards for a fee.
  • The town owns its website. Your content, your domain and your change history stay yours, and leaving means nothing has to be moved.
  • Every change has a name on it. Edits are recorded with who and when, and any earlier version can be restored.
  • Honest about limits. Automated checks find many problems, not all of them. We do not call a site "compliant," and captions on meeting video remain the town's duty.

How it runs

Each town has its own server and its own database, patched automatically and backed up nightly, so a problem in one town never reaches another. Deployments are signed with hardware keys that only we hold.
